Would you like to not
have to use a toilet again other than to flush it after a bowl movement? I have
been an avid user of pouch liners for nearly four years now. Yes, it requires that you use a two piece
appliance but the convenience, cleanliness and speed of making a bathroom stop can't be
compared. Also, this is a major step in not having to purchase pouches.
The cost of the Hollister pouch I use is $44.24 for a box
of ten. Assuming you use a pouch a day that is about $132.00 per month in cost.
If you purchased the inexpensive pouch liners, you would get 1000 for $5.71 plus
postage.
Assuming you used 4 per day, that is 250 days worth of liners equal to $1100.00
of pouch purchases for the same period of time.
The advantages of using
liners are:
 | No kneeling on the floor in front of a toilet or sitting backwards on it. |
 | No getting your fingers dirty trying
to close the pouch after emptying it. |
 | You can carry some liners and a pouch
with you so that any restroom can be used away from home. |
 | Pouch use is reduced and saves you
money. I use one or two pouches every couple of weeks. If you wash your
pouches, they can be used for just about ever. |
 | You are not carrying a dirty pouch
attached to you all day long. |
 | No need for toilet paper anymore. |
 | No fumbling with the pouch clip. |
 | It takes me about a minute from the
time I reach for a clean pouch until I return the other one to the cabinet.
Can you go that fast when emptying your pouch? |
The
disadvantages are:
 | Liners should not be flushed down toilets
that use a septic system or have a sewer pump as they don't dissolve. |
 | If you use a vented pouch, you cannot
use a pouch liner. |
Liner availability:
There are several liners available. I use Colo-Magic liners.
They are very thin. They come 300 to a package and cost
about $64.00 per package. A package lasts me 3 to 4 months. They can be purchased
from any major medical supplier. Unfortunately, they are not recognized by Medi-Care.
Colo-Magic has a Web-Site,
www.colostomymajic.com .
A cheaper version of liners are manufactured by Bear Bags. In
using them, I found them to be a little difficult to deal with because the
opening is not flared and the material seemed to be slightly heavier. But a lot
of my friends swear by them. They are
manufactured by Flex Wrap Corporation. Their
address is:
Soheia Loeffelman
Master Pak, Inc.
370 W. Pleasantview Ave.
Hackensack, N. J. 07601
Phone: 201 488-4008
The cost is $5.71 per thousand
bags plus UPS shipping.
